Social Services
The Social Services Department of the Michael Dunn Center has the responsibility of implementing the individualized plan of care, service and support that is established by each service recipient's support network or "circle of support." Typically, a "circle of support" consists of a service recipient's family members, guardians, conservators, friends and all staff members and administrators involved in the support of the individual. Each Individual Service Plan details how every aspect of the individual's life must be supported by the agency and how services will be delivered. This includes an enormous amount of communication between all staff members associated with the support of the individual.
Other important responsibilities of the Social Services Department include ensuring adherence of Michael Dunn Center policy and procedure with the Department of Mental Retardation Services Provider Manual. This requires daily documentation demonstrating compliance with the Provider Manual. Social Services is also responsible for all official record keeping for the agency regarding service recipients.
The overall goal of the Social Services Department is to achieve and maintain the optimal level of health and function for each service recipient so that he or she may be able to make choices for themselves and live as independently as possible. Reaching those goals is a challenge that changes daily. Many service recipients have needs that must be addressed by several health care providers and therapists. The success of the department's efforts is easily seen by the amazing progress of many of the service recipients. The work of Social Services makes it possible for each service recipient to chase their dreams.
